Leaving an abusive relationship can be challenging and potentially high risk. If someone confides that they are experiencing domestic abuse, there are specialised services that you can tell them about so that they can get support.
If they want to leave:
Get advice from the National Domestic Abuse and Forced Marriage Helpline: 0800 027 1234 or the Police (101) to get advice about leaving safely.
Highland Council can provide emergency accommodation or help find private accommodation and discuss their options.
Some local women’s aid services offer supported accommodation as well tailored one to one support for women and children.
If they want support:
There are a number of reasons why someone may not be able or ready to leave an abusive relationship. They can still benefit from free and discreet support from. This can include one-to-one emotional support, specialist support for children, practical support and advice about legal issues, housing, finances, safety and rights.
