Food Banks

Getting a referral

If someone is unable to buy food because of financial hardship they can get emergency food supplies from a foodbank.

To get vouchers for food they should ask for a referral:

  • local Citizens Advice Bureau

  • GPs, health visitors,

  • social workers

  • Other community support agencies may also be able to refer such as housing association, women’s aid and university of highlands and Islands.

When someone gets a referral, they will given a voucher to take along to your local food bank. At the foodbank they will be provided with a three-day food supply, along with recipes to help you make the most of this food.

What if the foodbank is closed?
