Child Disability Payment

Child Disability Payment is a new benefit provided by Social Security Scotland. It is designed to provide extra money to help with the costs of caring for a child with a disability or health condition. It replaces Disability Living Allowance for children in Scotland; a benefit provided by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

People can get a paper form via callin Social Security Scotland on 0800 182 2222 (8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday). Social Security Scotland will then post a form out to pelpe. An advisor local to people can meet people in person, over the phone or by video call. They can even meet in their homes if that’s their preference. People can Contact Social Security Scotland to book an appointments.

Joan Lawrie

Joan has worked for Thurso Community Development Trust since its inception in 2018. Firstly as a volunteer project officer before taking on the role of Development Officer and now Development Manager. Joan has a BA Child & Youth Studies, a BSc (Hons) Sustainable Development and is currently working on an MSc Net Zero Communities all through University of the Highlands & Islands.

Joan is passionate about the link between climate action projects and how these can help to solve issues around inequalities in our communities. She also constantly likes to think around how we can do differently to be the change.
