British Gas Energy Trust

British Gas Energy Trust offers grants up to £1,500 to anyone struggling with gas or electricity debt. Applicants will not receive cash, but the amount granted will be added to their energy account to reduce your debt.

To get help applicants must:

  1. Check if their current supplier(s) can help first. See Help from Energy Suppliers section.

  2. Need help their current supplier for gas and electricity at their main residence.

  3. Get FREE money advice from their local citizen’s advice or choose an online service such as StepChange or IncomeMax.

  4. Submit an application online including:

    • Confirmation that the applicant has received money advice in the last 3 months. For example, a personal plan or letter.

Joan has worked for Thurso Community Development Trust since its inception in 2018. Firstly as a volunteer project officer before taking on the role of Development Officer and now Development Manager. Joan has a BA Child & Youth Studies, a BSc (Hons) Sustainable Development and is currently working on an MSc Net Zero Communities all through University of the Highlands & Islands.

Joan is passionate about the link between climate action projects and how these can help to solve issues around inequalities in our communities. She also constantly likes to think around how we can do differently to be the change.
